I'm sure it's an age where there are multiple devices at your home that connects to the internet, and i'm sure not everyone will hack walls to embed LAN cables all over or have them running on the floor. Surely there will be lots of units with wifi routers esp i can tell WIC residents are all hip and tech-savvy group.

Now my point.. i detected two other wifi transmitters from my unit (mine being the third) even though not much mave moved in yet. initially my data transfer to Buffalo (network harddisk) drops to 200kb/s before disconnecting itself. that's very slow considering it was transferring at near 3MB/s at my old place.

point to note, for those not aware, is that there are 13 channels for wireless-G therefore i think it is essential maybe we find a way to communicate on which channel to set. effect of clashing channels are either reduced network speed, slow internet connection, frequent dropped signal and disconnection from wifi router. needless to say I have to experiment one by one to find out the best channel for my router.. and for now it is stable.. nightmare shall begin if another router comes into the neighbourhood. lucky thing for wireless-G is you only effect 10m area max, maybe shorter with all the concrete walls around.

this is one scenario that you cannot be selfish about because you will also be affected. unless your dog or pet iguana or nemo is the one accesing internet at home so you don't care shit about dropped connection and interupted downloads..

not sure how to set channels and too shy to let everyone know? PM phenom lar I come to help.. will only take 5 minutes.. Grin

I'm not too sure about draft-N yet btw but i'm guessing same thing will happen. and i'm guessing with draft-N's extended coverage area more headache will come..

My suggestion being:

1. Go selfish and pull LAN cable all over your beautifully decorated condo; or
2. Post your unit no, SSID name and wireless channel you have set
3. or if you prefer to go anonymous PM me the info above I will just post the info without your user ID so nobody knows who you are (except for phenom of course but why would I care where you live? I just want everyone to enjoy their internet  Grin).. unless of course you are the beautiful stewardess I saw on the elevator the other day  Wink

but har har don't worry phenom is way too cool to be a stalker..

I can't remember the channel I set so I will put it mine up later tonight.

well cap the important point is to have a harmonious wifi environment in WIC so it doesn't matter if you help post it up to the group. anyhow this have to be done so the sizzling hot stewardess too can enjoy uninterupted wifi  Grin and besides this is an international-class problem that can only be sorted out by communicating with our neighbours.

putting up to the group will cause the info to be split two ways and we might have to consolidate, i was thinking at first to post all up in the group since guys widurians are more active there but there might be some here too.. very frequent i notice people logging in and out without posting anything.

not sure if all this infringes privacy rights though, since this forum is more open to public reading but the group is much more exclusive to us only..

What do you think? there are pros and cons either way.

-----

Anyhow if the beautiful stewardess is somehow reading this, phenom humbly apologize for mentioning you here way too many times today, haha i just meant to promote coolness to WIC and instill jealousy to those staying in other parts of desa petaling because you're staying here and they are not  Cool i promise this is the last post with the words sizzling hot stewardess  Grin

well, the way i put it, if you could consolidate the info, or perhaps suggest some basic guidelines for everyone to follow, that would be good enough... and, i think most would prefer to discuss this in our internal group mail...

me busy busy now... busy busy with making WIC a better place to stay in...

ok dawg here to make things simple:

for dummies and tech idiots, if you notice a few wireless stations around your house, please communicate with each other to set the best channel for all of you. otherwise all your connection will crash and get frequently disconnected. refer to diagram below:

there are 13 channels for most of us, but note some wireless adapters can't detect above channel 11. most channels overlap each other therefore causing interference. There are non-interfering channels, for example 1, 6 and 11. so if there are three wireless stations around, and each of you setting them at 1, 6 and 11 then you guys will have happy wifi experience. of course looking at the diagram channels 3 and 7 will also not clash.

get the drift?

My suggestion is that you add number at the end of your wireless station to at least tell your neighbour what channel you're on (example phenom-wifi.6 or mary-station8 will be telling people phenom is on channel 6 and mary is on channel Cool.

Be courteous. if you are stubborn and ignorant, actually you are also killing your own wifi so don't be the idiot

Noted on that, although educating the rest of the residents there may take some serious effort, as this is really somethign that, even if we wanted to set, maybe we wouldn't know how to...

then you can start a mini side income business... RM10 per setting... or somethng like that..

well when everyone's wifi clashing left right center then they will start screaming for help. here's the math..

two wireless station clash, two idiots suffer
five wireless station clash, five idiots suffer

in this situation there is no such thing as 'my router is more powerful than yours' or 'my router is smarter than yours'. see, there is no router that can escape this (not for wireless-G anyway), so ignorant=stupid.

and about the RM10 thing, you all can keep your money, just message me if you need help  Grin

so far i've noticed some four wifi when i scan through my phone, near my bedroom, but in the hall, zilch.. nothing... does that mean that if I were to put a wifi router in the hall, chances of loss connections, or clashing of wifi waves would reduced significantly, or possibly even none at all?
